Music Report - Nov. 18, 2024
Being Dead, a duo from Austin, Texas, gained attention with shorter releases before releasing their debut album "When Horses Would Run" in 2023 on Bayonet Records. The album is a lively mix of '60s garage and surf rock, girl groups, sunshine pop, and psychedelia with dark lyrics and boy-girl harmonies. Seeking a rowdier sound for their follow-up, they worked with producer John Congleton in Los Angeles for a 16-track set list titled "EELS" that includes punk and psychedelia influences. The album kicks off with the energetic "Godzilla Rises" followed by tracks like "Van Goes" and "Problems" that showcase a variety of musical elements. Despite its length, "EELS" maintains high quality throughout, with standout tracks like "Rock n' Roll Hurts" and "Love Machine" contributing to its overall appeal.
